NSHSA Kentucky Derby Raft-up
May 2 – 4, 2014

The Kentucky Derby Raft-up started with a west southwest wind on Friday, giving the lucky ones who could get away on Friday a one-tack ride to Broad Creek on the Magothy. Everyone’s reviews were about the same, “Great Sail.”

That evening, the crews on Silent Running, Champagne and Paisano settled down to an improvised dinner party after cocktails. Frédérique  demonstrated her culinary skill by preparing rabbit stew.

On race day, Marc held toilet bowl plunger classes, which Frédérique  won, plungers down!

On Saturday, as the starting time for the derby drew near, Aquila and Schatzi rafted up together giving them just enough time to make the pre-race cocktail party. The H'or d'oeuvres just kept coming, and each one was a winner!

At race time, all hands did their best to pick the winning horse; however, Bill and Linda walked away with the purse!

Sunday gave us all a day to remember with a clear sky and wind from the South West at 15 knots and building all the way home.

Until next time, sail safe and take care.

Linda & Clem,
S/V Paisano
