NEYRC Regatta

June 10, 2017

Puesta del Sol accepted the North East River Yacht Clubs invitation to their 2017 Invitational Regatta. The regatta was held off Turkey Point where the Elk and North East Rivers enter the bay. With an 11:00 projected start time we spent Friday night at Still Pond. Saturday morning did not look promising for sailing let alone racing. We motored up to Turkey Point and floated around while waiting for the race start. Around 10:30 the winds started to build and things looked better for sailing race versus a floating race. As other vessels arrived the course was established as an up and back. The racing was fun but a little short (many recommendations were passed along to the racing committee on length the course next year). There were about 30 boats with 20 in the cruising class. After the race we took up the overnight dockage and attend the after race pig-roast at NERYC. The club members were very hospitable and we had a great time. Sunday was along haul back to Middle River with breakfast cooked and served while motoring down the North East River (spam, sausage, and eggs).  The winds provided us with a good sail to just north of Pooles Island and finished motoring back to Maryland Marina. While a long Sunday trex it was worth it.
