Commodore's Corner
Winter 2012
Hello Friends,
Looking back over the 2011 raft up reports, a theme for this past season, unlike any season in my recollection, emerged – We, NSHSA, like costumes! The evidence is clear. The HonFest was replete with horned rim glasses, poodle skirts and Natty Bo shirts. Adventure Bound hosted The 3 Hour Tour Raft where everyone finally let their inner Gillagan’s Island character out. The Christmas in July brought us one very hot boardshort wearing Santa. Now Now! Don’t get the wrong idea. Read the raft-up report and you will understand just how hot this Santa was. To finish out this season of costume balls, the Baltimore Boo Bash held in October sported a more eclectic theme of Gypsy Pirates, skunks, old sailors and Swedes. (Kinda sounds like an old Sonny and Cher song, doesn’t it?) As the saying goes, “If there aren’t pictures, it didn’t happen”. Well the pictures are on the website, it happened and it was fun!
Peppered between the frivolities, we as a club got down to the serious business of sailing and rafting. Paisano hosted the Kentucky Derby Raftup in Swan Creek and Tomorrow Came hosted the Memorial Day Raftup . The late August tropical storms and hurricanes forced us to regroup and move the picnic from Tidewater Marina to Maryland Marina, and Silent Running hosted the Fall Cruise which as Champagne tells it, had some of the best sailing weather of the season.
I would like to thank the officers and their spouses, the Raft Captains and each of you for another fantastic fun-filled season.
The rumors are true; reserve the date for the 2012 Chesapeake Bat Hunter Rendezvous. After 5 years the Hunter Rendezvous will return to Port Annapolis Marina on Aug 10..12 2012. This is a joint effort between NSHSA and HSA#1. Hunter Marine, Tidewater Marina and Nortons are sponsors. Check the website in the near future for details.
Dottie, Zach, Ryan and I wish you and your families a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year filled with good wind and fair weather.
Your Commodore,
Paul Borchardt
